What's On - September in East Gippsland

Spring has sprung and it's the perfect time to visit beautiful East Gippsland and shake off the chill of winter. From perusing markets and wine tasting to mountain biking and subterranean adventures, there's something to suit everyone this month.

The Metung Farmers Market is happening on 10th Sept from 8am to 12:30pm. Located on the Village Green it's the perfect place to stock up on provisions for your stay and a great place to kick off the weekend. The Paynesville Lions Club market will be held the following day on 11th Sept from 8:30am to 1pm. This is definitely one for those who enjoy a treasure hunt! Expect to find everything from hand-made jewellery and clothes to second hand tools and old wares. On 24th Sept follow your taste buds to the Paynesville Farmers Markets from 8:30am to 1pm and sample the superb local produce our region is fast becoming famous for. As well as food and amazing coffee you'll find hand made soaps, local pottery and a fantastic atmosphere. Both markets in Paynesville take place on the Gilsenan Reserve, Raymond Street.

As the Gippsland landscape wakes up from winter it's a perfect time to jump on a mountain bike and get out amongst it. We're spoilt for choice when it comes to mountain biking in Gippsland with the Colquhoun Mountain Bike Park, the Discovery Track and Rail Trail to Bruthen as well as scenic coastal cycle tracks all on our doorstep. To make the most of these, we've put together two awesome mountain bike packages with Venture Out including accommodation and many extras for both beginners and experienced riders - check them out here.

A visit to the intriguing underground world of Buchan Caves is always a must-do when visiting East Gippsland. During September visitors will have the opportunity to see the rarely opened Federal Cave and the spectacular Lilly Pilly and Murrindal Caves which are located 14kms north of Buchan. These very special tours are only operating for a short time from 19th Sept to the end of the month and bookings are essential. For full details contact the Buchan Caves Reserve Visitor Centre on 03 5162 1900.

If you enjoy good food and wine then head to Wyanga Park Winery for lunch at Henry's Cafe overlooking the lakes. Wyanga Park is Gippsland's oldest family owned winery and it's where you are guaranteed a warm welcome with wine tasting available from 9am - 5pm daily. Henry's Cafe is open for lunch daily from noon and source the freshest local produce available. While you're there, grab a bottle to take back to enjoy by the fire at Country House Retreat or on your deck at Jetty Road Retreat.

Enjoy Springtime in East Gippsland!
